This bag is from the Balenciaga SS2008 collection. Introducing the Lariat bag - originally created by Nicolas Ghesquière who was the Artistic Director for Balenciaga from 1997 (first show SS98) to November 2012. The Lariat bag (that go by many names) was officially launched in 2001 for Balenciaga, but was introduced earlier, in 2000 in a limited quantity for showroom-use. It was the it-girls of the time, Kate Moss and Chloë Sevigny, friends of Ghesquière, who spotted the bag and were some of the firsts to wear it. The design of the bag diverted from the time’s logomania, and became a symbol of a changing style preference in luxury. Its 'vintage’ look seemed new and appealed to the bobo culture.
